Animals Go Wild at the Lafayette Library
...With the help of the Oakland ZooMobile

Turtles, birds, snakes, and a couple of very cute hedgehogs arrived for show and tell on March 7 as part of a free event at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center by Glenn Seaborg Consortium Partner, The Oakland Zoo. Critter Wranglers/Education Specialists Felicia Walker and Sarah Cramer could not have been more patient teaching the mostly pre-school aged attendees and their parents about the habitats, eating habits, and sleeping schedules of the mini-menagerie.
Explaining snakes, Walker asked the kids, "What would smell good to a snake?" Lots of answers ensued from birthday cake to carrots - but alas, the kids were off the mark. "Rats and mice smell super yummy," she said. Stars of the show were mom and daughter East African Hedgehogs, one stayed up front for kids gathered around the stage and one was taken on a spin around the room for an up close and personal look for the audience.
