MAY - JUNE COMMUNITY EVENTS Moraga
The weather was a bit chilly for last year's Community Faire.

Wet Celebs at the Moraga Community Faire
By Sophie Braccini

There'd better be some warm weather on May 12 in Moraga! The 6th annual Community Faire is adding a new attraction this year, lining up some brave town celebrities to take a plunge into water warmed only by the rays of the sun. Why take the punishment? To participate in good-hearted community fun and to help raise money for the town.
Moraga Chief of Police Bob Priebe agreed to be part of it. The good-humored Chief is always game to support a cause. Some will remember that he got his head shaved in public two years ago for St. Baldrick's Day, a non-profit that raises money for childhood cancer research. He won't be the only one to get wet, Vice Mayor Howard Harpham said yes, as well as Max Luckhurst, Campolindo's baseball coach, who will be joined by his varsity team, 2011 Businessman of the Year Grant Stubblefield, Moraga School District Superintendent Bruce Burns, and Saint Mary's College athletes.
The dunk tank will be located near the stage, and dunking will happen throughout the afternoon during the intermission between bands. "Who gets to throw the first ball will be decided by the highest bidder, auctioned off by Adam Kennedy, the MC for the day," says Faire organizer Ellen Beans. "All other throws will be free of charge."
The East Bay Municipal Utility District is sponsoring the activity with a $600 donation. "They promised an additional $50 for each elected council member and police chief who sits in that perilous chair," says Beans.
This new activity is only one of the many other fun things planned at the Faire. Entertainment for all ages will be offered throughout the day including music, local wine sampling, food trucks, a car show, and many children's activities. "Just in time for Mother's Day, there will be opportunities to buy art, crafts and jewelry from a wide range of artists," says Faire volunteer Judy Jacobs. The Faire is also an opportunity for local merchants and businesses to showcase what they offer. Attendees will be able to complete an "Explore Moraga" Passport and win prizes.
The Moraga Faire is scheduled for Saturday, May 12, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Rheem Center, along Moraga Road. This annual event is planned and organized by the Moraga Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with the Town of Moraga. For more information, go to moragachamber.org/faire.

4th Annual Moraga Senior Faire, May 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Hacienda de las Flores. Organized by Senior Helpers of Contra Costa and co-sponsored by the Moraga Recreation Department, the faire will feature presentations on the impact of the senior demographic in an election year, the newest electronic gadgets for home safety, a free telephone program connecting California elders through activities and interests, and living better after age 50 through physical and cognitive exercise. Free. For reservations, call Senior Helpers at 925-376-9900.

Free Family Movie Night, Saturday, June 16 beginning at 8:30 or 8:40 p.m. (depending on darkness) at Moraga Commons Park. Join the Moraga Youth Involvement committee (MYIC) as they show Toy Story under the stars at the Moraga Commons Park. Bundle up with blankets and friends, enter the raffle, and enjoy concessions sold by the MYIC.

The Summer Concert Series starts June 21 with Moonalice - an early San Francisco rock band. The free concerts are held at the Moraga Commons Park from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. every Thursday evening until August 23. Bring a blanket and picnic, or buy hot dogs and burgers at the Park. Complete program at moragaparks.org/concert.html.
