| In celebration of the Girl Scouts Forever Green Initiative, the members of Lafayette troop 30195 spent the last 24 months learning about local environmental issues and exploring current and historic environmental heroines. They visited a local grocery to learn about sustainable food processes, they picked up trash in the community, and created art out of items otherwise designated for the garbage. For their community service project they worked with the Burton Valley Elementary (BVE) lunch and garden program to divert cafeteria food scraps from the garbage into the school garden compost bin (diverting over 500 pounds of food scraps). Their work contributed to BVE securing a $1,500 Wastebusters grant. They proudly presented their work at Sustainable Lafayette's Earth Day Festival where they also sold cupcakes to earn money for more earth worms for the food bin. Participants in this award are: Isabella Bradley, Caroline Chen, Isabel Elings, Macie Farrell, Nell Kessenich, Nicolle Kessenich, Claire Sebree, Emma Smith, Stella Stewart, and Delilah Wiseman.
