| Moraga Girl Scout Troop 30072 helped the homeless this spring by assembling hygiene kits consisting of basic toiletries such as shampoo, soap, sunscreen, teeth cleaning supplies, and other items for clients of the Concord Adult Shelter. Dr. Laura Halvorsen, a dentist in Moraga, graciously donated toothbrushes, floss, toothpaste and plastic bags for the hygiene kits. The shelter supervisor said, "Please convey our gratitude to Girl Scout Troop 30072. Their hard work and generosity will greatly benefit the most vulnerable members of our community."
The girls finished off the 2011-2012 school year Sunday, June 3 by helping serve lunch to those who are poor, homeless or hungry at Glide Memorial in San Francisco. The girls greeted people, handed out trays of food, refilled water pitchers, and generally helped the diners feel comfortable and cared for. The girls learned a lot and realized how fortunate they are to have the basic necessities in life, including food. They talked about how diverse the volunteers are - from all walks of life coming together for a common cause. The experience helped focus some of the girls for their Silver Award which they will be working on for the next year. They want to continue to help homeless people, especially children.
