Moonrise Kingdom

No filmmaker in recent times does "quirky" like director Wes Anderson (Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, and The Fantastic Mr. Fox). His latest film, Moonrise Kingdom, lives up to his "quirky" standards. Moonrise Kingdom, which opened the Cannes Film Festival in May, tells a tale of two 12-year-old lovers, Sam and Suzy, who run away from their New England homes during the summer of 1965.
First time actors Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward who play Sam and Suzy both bring their innocence to the screen. Sam flees his Khaki Scout summer camp and Suzy departs her home where she lives with her lawyer parents played by Oscar recipient Frances McDormond (Fargo) and Oscar nominee Bill Murray (Lost in Translation). The small New England town is turned upside down in the search for these kids. Bruce Willis portrays the lonely cop and the Scout Master is two-time Oscar nominee Edward Norton (American History X, Primal Fear). They each have their own plans for discovery when the thunder, lightning, wind and rainstorm of the century arrives and time is of the essence.
Director of photography Robert D. Yeoman (The Royal Tenenbaums, Bridesmaids) captures the retro period of the 1960s with the use of a grainy yellow tint. As with all of Anderson's films the detail of pop culture, set decoration and period music are combined here to enjoy. The genuine and nostalgic screenplay is written by Anderson and co-written with Roman Coppola, son of Francis Ford Coppola.
Moonrise Kingdom will bring back your childhood dream of adventures with friends without supervision. Take the trek and reminisce about your first love, your first kiss, your childhood.
