| After more than 50 years of community service and fundraising, the Suburban Women's Club of Lafayette held its last meeting on June 21 at the Lafayette Community Center. The club is discontinuing due to dwindling membership, but that didn't deter the ladies from awarding a scholarship to Mitchell Carlson, a Campolindo High School sophomore who will attend the Northern California Youth Leadership Seminar (NYCLS) program. Carlson spoke about the NYCLS program at the meeting.
Founder Betsey Young established the Lafayette Juniors in 1953 and after the membership reached a certain age, she launched the Suburban Women's Club of Lafayette in 1956. The Lafayette Juniors will be celebrating 60 years in the upcoming school year.
