| Standard Poodle Wins Letter Writing Contest

Let's face it, poodles are smart. But winning a letter writing contest? Orinda resident and Standard Poodle Tahoe Pooders did just that. Okay, so Tahoe's owner Lucinda Giertz actually transcribed the letter, and may even have taken some liberties with the wording (like writing the whole thing), but the dog still won the Sabi Mother's Day letter writing contest and was sent a prize, and the dog's letter was posted on the company's website. "Tahoe's the only one in the family with a Facebook page because it scares me," Giertz said. He also has an e-mail account and a blog. "A mass e-mail came to his Facebook page about the contest, so I entered. They sent a response thanking Tahoe for his submission and telling him he'd won the contest. It made me laugh because - well, he's a dog." Although Giertz called the company to explain that the winner was a pooch, the company didn't seem to mind and sent the dog a pill grinder, which was the product Tahoe mentioned in his letter as the best Sabi product because of how it helped him swallow pills, along with five other products. "Tahoe seemed thrilled to get the package," Giertz said.
