Boy Scout Troop 234 honored six new Eagle Scouts from Campolindo High School at a ceremony on June 2 at St. Monica's Church in Moraga. Each completed an Eagle Service Project benefiting the community.
Junior Eric S. Chiang designed and constructed a lattice in front of the main office window at Camino Pablo Elementary School. The project involved erecting and cementing 12-foot-long poles of wood before putting up the lattice cross-work.
Freshman Stephen W. DaRodda cleaned the front entry of the library, cleaning out light fixtures, washing/scrubbing floor tiles, walls, removing old bird nests and spider webs. He also constructed and painted two wheeled book donation bins out of plywood.
Junior Jesse Douglas Hammond took charge of three of the lunches for the Walnut Creek Homeless Ministry of Hillside Covenant Church. Jesse solicited all the donations, purchased the food, organized volunteers to prepare the food and distributed the food for three separate lunch events for homeless in Walnut Creek. Approximately 60 homeless were served lunch on three separate Mondays last summer.
Senior James Kapoulas constructed and installed a permanent shelving system for the Moraga Parks and Recreation Department. This shelving system was built in a shed used as a garage and storage facility. The shelves created ample space for the storage and organization of equipment and park activity supplies.
Sophomore Zoon Seok "Joseph" Park restored 25 deteriorating wooden benches at Campolindo. These benches were splintering and rough, and impossible for the students to sit on. He scraped off the paint and sanded the benches till they were smooth, and then applied primer and new paint.
Senior Zoon Beom "Oliver" Park built four sturdy redwood benches at Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School for the outdoor science class currently in development. This project was only possible with the help of Mrs. Lezak, my mother, Mr. Israel, Mr. Stepp, Mr. Silva, and many scouts and friends.
