Swimmers from Orinda Aquatics played host to more than 70 children from Oakland's Harbor House Friday, July 27 at the Soda Aquatic Center in Moraga.
Harbor House, located in Oakland, provides opportunities to low income people to realize their full potential. For 38 years, Harbor House has served more than 100,000 people in spiritual, economic and educational development.
Campolindo junior Hannah Grubbs organized the afternoon. The kids were organized into groups and each group was paired up with a swimmer for games and learn-to-swim lessons. Many of the kids from Harbor House had never been to a pool before. In addition to having fun in the water, the children also learned basic water safety.
"It was a really fun and rewarding day. Not only were the kids happy but my teammates who volunteered to help looked like they were having a great time too. I hope we can offer this opportunity to the kids again next year," said Grubbs.
