The Campolindo Cougars knew they would have to stay focused and dig deep Tuesday night to pull out a win over the Warriors of Valley Christian (San Jose) in the NorCal Championship. After dropping the first set 20-25, the Cougars clawed their way to victory—winning the next three sets, 25-22, 25-23, 27-25. The teams stayed within a couple of points of each other throughout the final two sets as both sides fought hard to come out on top. “We just wanted it so badly - we knew we could do it and we went out and did what we’ve done all season,” said senior hitter Annie Shurtz.
As the NorCal Division 3 champions, Campolindo will meet the SoCal Division 3 champs, perennial powerhouse Cathedral Catholic (San Diego), in the State Championship that will be played at Concordia University (Irvine) Dec. 1 at 3 p.m. Cathedral Catholic has claimed the title State Champion for three of the last four years, their only defeat coming at the hands of the 2010 Campolindo Cougars.
