Thinking of Adopting a Cat? Adoption Fees Lowered for Certain Breeds

From now until Jan. 13 fees are being cut drastically for black and black tuxedo cats available at three Community Concern for Cats (CC4C) adoption locations.
Studies have shown that people often don't "see" black cats at adoption sites. Black as a color recedes while the lighter colors advance, so in a line-up, people often only "see" the lighter colored tabbies and white ones. The black cats' chances at adoption simply aren't as good.
The adoption fee of $50 for kittens under a year; $35 for cats over one year old includes spay/neuter, feline leukemia testing, all shots, worming meds, and flea treatment.
Billie Cummings, a CC4C foster parent, said, "Over the past year I fostered 12 cats and fell in love with four of them-all black: Boots, Bradley, Bella and Figaro. They were so loving and had great personalities. But weeks went by and still they weren't adopted. I finally resorted to taking them out of their cages at the adoption site and putting them in people's arms as they came by. Once they held them, they were hooked!"
Black or black tuxedo cats will be available at Petco Walnut Creek, and Pet Food Express Pleasant Hill, Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. and from 12 to 3 p.m. at Pet Food Express in Lafayette.
