| The California Magic Soccer Club, a competitive soccer club in Orinda, had a wonderful evening playing pick-up soccer or "Pelada" for charity Jan. 20. More than 60 parents, players, and kids arrived at the new Wilder Fields with coats in hand to share in an evening of fun, food, and entertainment, and to volunteer and collect coats for the "One Warm Coat" foundation. Playing "Pelada" under the lights, the Club was able to collect 117 warm coats for the needy and donated them to the Concord Burlington Coat Factory to be distributed throughout the county. "They were quite surprised as we kept bringing bag after bag after bag in through the front door," said volunteer Lori Smith. "It's just nice that the Magic does these types of community outreach programs to enlighten the kids." The "Warm Coats, Warm Hearts" campaign is a nationwide effort to collect and donate one million coats. For more information about the organization, visit onewarmcoat.org.
