Local Swimmers Win Gold at Far Western Championships

Swimmers from Aquabears Viking Club, located in Pleasant Hill, competed at the 2015 Short Course Far Western Swimming Championships in Morgan Hill on April 9-12.
The Far Western Championships, hosted by the Pacific Association and USA Swimming, has been one of the most competitive age group swimming meets in the United States, attracting swimmers from across the country and even from around the world.
The Aquabears Viking Club Far Western Champions included Marie-Claire Schillinger (17-18) of Orinda in the 100 Breaststroke and Brittany Usinger (17-18) of Lafayette in the 50 Freestyle, 100 and 200 Butterfly.
The 11/12 Girls 200 Medley and 200 Freestyle relays both took first place. Local swimmers Jessica Davis and Shelby Suppiger from Lafayette and Sophie Lurie from Orinda made up the relay teams. Alex Hanley of Orinda also competed at the event.
