You still may have time to attend the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce-sponsored “Social Media Strategies for Local Businesses Workshop – Easy Steps to Create Engaging Social Media Images” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21 at the Lafayette Library Learning Center, 3491 Mt. Diablo Blvd. This workshop will cover no-cost tools and tips for creating social media images others will notice. Reservations recommended: (925) 284-7404.
Not quite so urgent is your opportunity to attend “Managing Employees in the Restaurant and Retail Industries: Regulations and Best Practices,” a seminar hosted by the Wilkerson Law Office with the Alameda County Small Business Development Center to help business owners navigate the maze of federal, state and local regulations while creating a robust and positive working environment. The seminar will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26 in the Cal State East Bay Montclair Room, 1000 Broadway, Suite 109, Oakland. The registration deadline is 8 a.m. on that date. Finally, the chamber is sponsoring a presentation aimed at helping businesses avoid mistakes once they are established and growing from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13. This program is a follow-up on an earlier presentation on how to start your business. Lafayette’s Queen of Heaven Cemetery has announced the completion of its funeral center chapel, which allows for more complete services (viewing, eulogies, and formal prayer services) to be held onsite. The chapel will be dedicated at a Mass celebrated by Bishop Michael Barber, bishop of Oakland, at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 at 1965 Reliez Valley Road in Lafayette. The event is open to the public. Mix it up! CAPA and the Lamorinda Arts Council invite the public to sample 20 craft cocktails, eat gourmet finger foods, and enjoy some music in Orinda’s Theatre Square at the third annual “Art of Mixology” craft cocktail competition and tasting at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8. More than 20 Bay Area bartenders will be competing for the title of Mixologist of the Year, while amateurs compete for the Home Crafted Award. Tickets for this safe and sane event, which are $45 apiece and include a souvenir shot glass, can be purchased at www.shoporindaarts.org.
