One of two parklets installed in a pilot program to test public response will be removed after the program ends on Nov. 1. The council allocated funds from the city's budget to remove the parklet on Mt. Diablo Boulevard in front of Amarin Thai and El Jarro restaurants because survey results indicated that there were concerns about adverse impacts on parking, public safety and aesthetics. The second parklet at the corner of Mt. Diablo Boulevard and Mountain View Avenue was better received, and will remain for now with some weatherproofing added for the rainy season.
The council will determine whether to install permanent parklets in Lafayette at a later time.
