The Saklan School was a proud participant in the Moraga iKind Project, incorporating the topic of "Kindness" into their social and emotional learning curriculum for the month of September. For the entire month, classes at all grade levels - even music, art, Spanish and physical education - included a focus on kindness.
Kindness was also the subject of Saklan's Family Group activities where teams of students from first grade through middle school are led by eighth graders with seventh-grade assistants. Teams created chains of different colored construction paper containing their ideas for paying kindness forward at school, with family and in the community. The chains from different teams were then connected with a golden link. Saklan students as young as three-year-old Owlets and four-year-old Hoot Owls pledged to promote and value kindness.
On Friday, Nov. 4, local iKind organizer Wendell Baker attended The Saklan School's weekly Flag Assembly as an honored guest and was presented with nearly 150 pledge cards from students and staff.
