Moraga-Orinda Fire District Chief Stephen Healy plans to leave the district in September, he announced July 11.
“New boards come in with different values and perspectives and I have to respect that,” Healy said.
Healy explained that he came to his decision over the last two weeks and he confirmed that his separation is “completely my own doing.”
The chief noted one regret: That he will not see a new labor agreement put into place, as the current contract expires in 2018.
“We had our good days and our bad days, but Healy got the district through some tough times,” said Local 1230 President Vince Wells. “His departure leaves the rank and file unsure of the future for the district.”
“I am really going to miss him,” added Kathleen Famulener, MOFD board president. “Chief Healy did a great job. The lights in the district remained on because of him.”
Healy said that he will stay on the job until Sept. 20.
