A 3-alarm fire destroyed a commercial building at 100 Lafayette Circle that housed 10 local businesses, including the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce and La Finestra Restaurant.
“This incident required a significant commitment of fire resources for over six hours to extinguish and overhaul the fire,” said Assistant Chief Lon Goetsch of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.
A fire and an explosion ripped through the structure shortly before midnight July 12 completely engulfing the building in flames within two minutes, according to Capt. George Laing. No one was injured, and the fire remains under investigation. Firefighters were still on the scene at 10:30 a.m. Thursday extinguishing pockets that continued to flare up.
“Everyone is OK,” said Jay Lifson, executive director of the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce. “We are running full steam ahead, so please call us if you need us.”
Lifson said the chamber will move temporarily into the Bank of the West building on Mt. Diablo Boulevard.
