National Night Out coming to local communities Aug. 6
By Pippa Fisher
This year National Night Out takes place across the country on Aug. 6. And first responders in Lamorinda hope for a strong participation right here in this community.
The event is an annual community-building campaign that promotes first responder-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out provides an opportunity to bring police officers, firefighters, local officials and neighbors together under positive circumstances.
Neighborhoods are encouraged to host block parties of any type - simple or more elaborate - with the goal of getting to know first responders and build community among neighbors. Residents schedule a visit by local police who hope to use the event to share crime prevention tips, emergency preparedness tips and to encourage residents to sign up for the emergency warning system.
Last year the police visited four such parties.
