Girl Scouts International Faire a huge success
More than 350 Girl Scouts gathered Feb. 22 at Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School for the Orinda Moraga Girl Scouts Service Unit 327 International Faire, one of the service unit’s longest-standing annual events. Held in celebration of World Thinking Day, the Faire honors global scouting traditions and highlights the worldwide sisterhood of Girl Scouts.
This year, 18 countries were represented as Scouts “traveled” the globe by visiting country booths hosted by older troops. Each booth featured a specific nation and offered an interactive craft, game, or hands-on activity reflecting that country’s culture and traditions. Younger Scouts had the opportunity to learn directly from older Scouts, creating meaningful mentorship moments and encouraging leadership across grade levels.
Upon arrival, every Scout received a “passport” to carry throughout the afternoon. As they explored the booths, girls collected stamps from each country they visited, making the experience both educational and engaging. The gymnasium was filled with colorful displays, maps, and flag bearers proudly representing nations from around the world.
In addition to crafts and activities, attendees sampled international food and treats, broadening their understanding of global cultures through taste and tradition. Many Scouts wore traditional attire alongside their Girl Scout uniforms, adding to the festive and vibrant atmosphere.
More than just an event, the International Faire reflects the Girl Scout mission to build girls of courage, confidence, and character. By celebrating diversity and scouting traditions worldwide, 355 local girls left with expanded perspectives, strengthened leadership skills, and a deeper appreciation for the global community of which they are a part.
