All-girl Scout Troop 402G completes Northern Tier trek
Photo provided

Lamorinda Scout Troop 402G?became the first all-girl crew to ever go canoeing in Bissett, Manitoba on the Northern Tier trek. Unofficially regarded as the "Most Extreme High Adventure in Scouting," the Northern Expeditions ("Bissett") Canoe Base is the most rugged and remote region paddled by Northern Tier crews (https://www.ntier.org/expeditions/summercanoetreks/).
All crews enter the wilderness via a 20-minute float plane to a canoe cache located at the heart of the combined 2.5 million acres of Atikaki Provincial Park and Woodland Caribou Provincial Park, an area paddled by only a handful of canoeists each year.
This particular trek covered approximately 100 miles over 7 days with no lodgings. The scouts carried 75-pound canoes up and down very steep terrain and wore backpacks that were filled with 75-120 lbs of food and gear. Troop Leaders report the scouts supported each other all along the way through very challenging situations.
