Girl Scout troop 30573 completed their bronze award this past spring. The girls worked with Friends of the Orinda Creek to identify the plants along San Pablo Creek in Orinda. Each troop member picked a plant along the creek to learn about, which they then created an artwork of the plant and researched information about. The?girls then created plant markers by pounding out metal spoons to stick in the ground by various plants along the creek walkway, labeled with their drawings of the plants shrunken to fit on the spoons.
The final part of troop 30573's bronze award project was to create a permanent sign that provides details about all the plants along the San Pablo creek walk. The community can now walk along the creek and read about the various?plants they will see around them.
Throughout the process of working on this project, the Girl Scout troop was very fortunate to have Toris Jaeger as a guide. Toris offered many hours of her time to educate the troop about the plants along the creek, help the girls identify their plants when they put in their markers, and be a presence when the sign was hung.
