Station 41 Open House and Pancake Breakfast a very popular event

A warm, sunny morning in Moraga seems to have been a good time for families from all over Lamorinda to get out and visit the Moraga Orinda Fire District (MOFD) open house and pancake breakfast at Station 41 on Moraga Way. There was a large, enthusiastic turnout for the event on Saturday, Oct. 5.
There were plenty of fire fighters, including a truck from CalFire, on hand as the station pulled out all their trucks for the public to admire and children to get up in the driver's seat to imagine themselves real fire fighters. Hats were available in either red or black.
For the more adventurous, volunteers from the Lamorinda Community Emergency Response Team were offering lessons in how to use a fire extinguisher. Many of the hands-on students were children, who were guided by an adult volunteer in putting out a real fire with an extinguisher.
Orinda volunteer of the year, Gene Gottfried, donated $1,000 to the event so that folks could enjoy their pancakes with real maple syrup. Gottfried was there as part of the Rescue One team.
All of the food for the pancake breakfast is donated, and was prepared by MOFD staff. Visitors could make donations that would go to the Professional Firefighters Association and be passed through to the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).
Like the Town of Moraga, the RMHC is also celebrating its 50th anniversary. RMHC provides housing, home cooked meals, and support from staff and volunteers for families of children receiving hospital treatment.
As the morning warmed up, firefighters demonstrated how they can use the jaws of life to safely remove a victim from a automobile following a serious crash.
Many other volunteer organizations dedicated to preserving lives and property had informational tables around the fire house, including MOFD Support 245, the American Red Cross, Firewise USA, Rescue One, and the Lamorinda Radio Interest Group.
