Lafayette celebrates America’s 250th anniversary
To commemorate the nation's 250th anniversary, on Thursday, July 2 the City of Lafayette is hosting a two-part community celebration combining family-friendly activities and a documentary screening at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center in the amphitheater and Don Tatzin Community Hall to mark the 250th Anniversary of America's Declaration of Independence: From 4 to 6 p.m., all ages can enjoy games, crafts and other activities, including signing a giant copy of the Declaration of Independence, and learn more about the Marquis de Lafayette; and at 6 p.m., hear a brief presentation by Lafayette Historical Society President Mary McCosker on how the city’s Lafayette name came to be, followed by a screening of “Lafayette: The Lost Hero,” a one-hour documentary on the Marquis's extraordinary life and contributions to American independence.
All ages are welcome and refreshments will be available. The event is presented by the City of Lafayette, in partnership with the Lafayette Historical Society, Lafayette Library and Learning Center, the Acalanes Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and All Ages Recreation Downtown (AARD).
