Class of 1956 celebrates its 70th Acalanes High School Reunion
Thirty-five proud older Acalanes High School graduates gathered on Friday, Sept. 25 at WiseGirl Restaurant in Pleasant Hill for their 70th Class Reunion. These spry attendees were 88 and 87 years old. Many of them started at Lafayette Grammar School, then attended Acalanes together.
As per usual, the Class of 1957 was invited to join in and they filled two tables of eight. The 1956 graduating class was 248 grads strong; they have sadly lost 77 of those graduates. Forty-one have never communicated with the Reunion Committee.
Having 35 in attendance was a great point of pride. Once again Fred Arbogast put the celebration together with Sandy Planz Arbogast hosting. The Marlow Boyds set up the "Gone but not Forgotten" display, filling the stage. The dining room walls boasted the years in pictures of graduates’ high school time.
During their working lives, graduates went on to become doctors, lawyers, therapists. Today they are artists, writers, musicians, photographers, travelers, parents, grandparents and great grandparents. Some of the graduates have done astonishing things with their lives to be sure, but everyone present was cherished and amazing. The noise of friends reuniting was deafening. Those celebrating noted that during high school, television in their homes was only a couple of years old, the Korean War was on going and BART was years away, not to mention computers and cell phones.
